10.27.27.01. 01 Definitions.. A. In this chapter, the following terms have the meanings indicated.. B. 10.27.27.02. 02 Certification.. A. An applicant for certification as a clinical nurse specialist shall:. 1) Hold a current Maryland license in good standing to practice registered nursing or a multistate licensure privilege to practice registered;2) Have graduated from a Board-approved graduate level education program for a clinical nurse specialist at the master’s level or higher that is accredited by;a) The National League for Nursing Accreditation Commission (NLNAC).

10.27.27.03. 03 Renewal of Certification.. A. Certification as a clinical nurse specialist expires at the same time as the clinical nurse specialist’s registered nursing license.B. Before a clinical nurse specialist’s certification expires, the clinical nurse specialist may renew the certification biennially if the clinical nurse specialist:1) Is otherwise entitled to be certified;. 2) Submits to the Board:. a) A completed renewal application for clinical nurse specialists on a form

10.27.27.04. 04 Scope of Practice.. A. The practice of the clinical nurse specialist:. 1) Encompasses the continuous improvement of patient outcomes and nursing care;. 2) Shall be in accordance with the core competencies and behaviors specified by the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists or other national certifying body recognized by the Board;3) Includes creating therapeutic environments through mentoring and system changes; and.

10.27.27.05. 05 Practice Before Certification.. A. A registered nurse who has completed the education requirements for the advanced practice of a clinical nurse specialist and has registered for a national certifying exam recognized by the Board may practice in this State as a clinical nurse specialist graduate if the registered nurse has:1) A current license to practice registered nursing in this State or holds a multistate licensure privilege to practice registered nursing;

10.27.27.06. 06 Unlawful Practices.. A. Unless authorized to practice under this chapter, an individual may not use the following words or abbreviations:1) Certified clinical nurse specialist;. 2) Clinical nurse specialist (CNS). 3) Clinical Registered Nurse Specialist (CRNS). 4) Clinical nurse specialist graduate; or. 5) Nurse specialist graduate..
